Doon Valley Fact:
It wasn't a golf ball!

On July 12, 1998, Orville Delong and his fellow golfers picked up a rock near the sixth tee of Doon Valley Golf Course, located at 500 Doon Valley Dr. They had heard something falling while they were on the links but they didn't see the rock until it hit the ground.

Weighing 202 grams, the rock became known as the Kitchener meteorite, and was analyzed by Prof. John Rucklidge at the University of Toronto. Pieces of it are kept at both the National Meteorite Collection at the Geological Survey of Canada and in the Department of Geology at the University of Toronto.

Doon Valley Golf Course

Doon Valley Golf Course’s story began when Arnold Elmslie started construction of the 6,200-yard course, located next to the Grand River in the south end of Kitchener, in 1955.

The course architect was C. E. (Robbie) Robinson. A student of renowned golf course designer Stanley Thompson, Robinson moved on to become the premier golf course architects of his time, designing over 100 courses across Canada. Robinson was also a mentor to award-winning designer Doug Carrick. Elmslie operated it under private ownership until 1966, when it was purchased by the City of Kitchener for $340,000.

Full range of golf amenities

Today, after an extensive recent renovation, the Doon Valley Golf Course offers a full range of exciting golf facilities nestled amongst expansive natural wetlands and running along the edge of the Grand River.
